Chapter 19

“Well, I’m off, sis.”

“Won’t Kit be jealous?” Aria raised her eyebrows as she watched her sister stuff clothes haphazardly into a duffel bag. “You will bring that back, won’t you?” she added, pointing to the bag.

“To answer your questions, Kit and I have an open relationship, and two, of course I’ll bring it back. I’m only taking it because I don’t want to drag along my whole suitcase.”

“Well, be careful. Please.”

Mariana blew her a kiss. “Always.”

After checking with Spark and completing a few household chores, Aria grabbed her things and headed for Morgan’s Run. She and Harriet were meeting at the stables for a short trail ride. Her friend was waiting by the barn door, talking to Kyle’s brother Ben. The two men were taking a ride out to Valley Stables to say hi to the crew and bring lunch.

“Hey, ladies, beautiful day for a ride,” Ben said, tipping his worn Stetson.

“Sure is,” Aria said, nodding to Harriet and Kyle.

Harriet grabbed her backpack from the ground. “Jeb and Nick have us all saddled up. Shall we?” She kissed her husband lightly as they passed into the barn. Kyle tipped his hat to Aria.

She always felt slightly uncomfortable around Kyle, recalling their past when she spent almost a year chasing him. Someday I’ll have to apologize to him for all my obnoxious flirting. Their one “date” had ended in her tootling off with some random cowboy, whom she dumped outside the Bulldog. What was I thinking? She realized she’d never told Harriet that story. She cringed, wondering if Kyle had.
